Species: Human

History: Wiki entry

Personality: Carl is only twelve when the epidemic starts, so being thrust into a group of survivors on the outskirts of Atlanta makes him wary- relying heavily upon his parents for guidance and support as most pre-teens do. He starts as very shy and reserved, taking time to warm up to the people within their group, but once he does, it's shown numerous times that he is very quick to comfort the ones that he's closest to when they need it. He offers support to Carol when Sophia goes missing, adamant that they'll not only find her, but that she'll be okay.

For all of his comforting, he can be pessimistic and rude, especially after Sophia's death, which starts his attitude becoming colder. He lashes out at Carol for believing they'll see Sophia again in Heaven, saying she's stupid for believing that, but sees how wrong what he said as and apologizes. Carl has an immense need to prove that he can fend for himself and prove that he doesn't need his parents looking over his shoulder at every turn. He takes to attending firearm practice with the adults once he recovers from being shot accidentally by one of the members of the farm. He's less frightened of the world around him, and for it, his personality starts to grow bolder.

As every teenager can be, he is occasionally disobedient, but feel guilty if it negatively impacts the group. He has immense guilt after he is inadvertently responsible for the death of one of their own, not killing the walker in the woods that causes Dale's death. He vows never to pick up a gun again, but his confidence is restored after his father turns it into a lesson of responsibility and accountability.

By season three, he is battle-hardened, helping out with eradicating walkers, and clearly having practiced his firearm skills. He is no longer shy around their group and his bravery grows tenfold. Carl is shown frequently helping people and risking his life, even when told to keep his distance. He goes searching the uncleared prison, bringing back a bag full of much-needed first aid supplies much to the worry of the rest of the group.

The death of his mother and the delivery of his sister impacts him negatively. Forced to put down his mother so she doesn't turn is a lot to lay on the shoulders of a fourteen year old. It's a hard lesson to take, especially when Rick loses himself after the news of her death. He cares dearly for his baby sister, who he helps name. Carl is shown to be very loving and doting to her, constantly seen as her caretaker later on. He relies heavily still on the older members of their group for guidance, his father especially. His desire to be strong comes from Rick.
It becomes clear, when tensions are high with the situation in Woodbury and Carl mercilessly kills another kid despite his surrender, that he's grown colder. He did what he felt was necessary to keep the group alive. He lays down his gun, and after his insistence, so does Rick, until the time is right. Disaster strikes again and their settlement is attacked. Forced to flee, they come across Judith's empty car seat, and Carl is distraught. In his upset and anger, he lashes out at his father, but it's clear that even though Rick can be overbearing sometimes, Carl would still be lost without him. While healing from the Governor's attack, Carl is certain that his father has died and turned into one of the hundreds of walkers they've come across. He can't do it. His weakness is still his family, and to his knowledge, his dad was the last person he had.

When they reunite with everyone again, he's elated to find that Judith was safe and sound, stepping in as her main caretaker. While on the road, her needs supersede his own, but the family is together again, everyone is safe. Carl is willing to do whatever it takes to keep those around him from harm. Growing up in a world infested with walkers has changed him drastically, but he's proven time and time again that he's matured and able to rise to the occasion for the sake of their cobbled-together family unit.

Abilities: Carl is a regular 15 year old with no truly remarkable abilities. He's an excellent marksman with knowledge of a decent array of firearms.
